COACHING STARTING UP JULY 13TH!

A Letter from our President:

Hello Riders!

I am excited to announce that Okotoks BMX will begin hosting club coaching starting this Monday July 13, 2020. We are currently in the process of getting the currently registered riders divided into coaching groups. Coaching will be broken into the following groups:

Monday nightGroup A (Ages 5-7) – 6:30-7:30

Group B (Ages 11-13) – 7:45-8:45 Tuesday night

Group C (Ages 8-11) – 6:30-7:30

Group D (Ages 14+) – 7:45-8:45

IMPORTANT: Please arrive 10-15 min prior to your practice time to check in at the man gate. When practice is over we kindly ask that you immediately exit the facility and check out at the man gate. The second practice group will not be able to start until the first group has completely left the facility.

Watch your email for more details soon!

Volunteer hours

In order to successfully pull off our coaching nights we will require some volunteers to make it successful. For each coaching session the following volunteer position must be filled.

3 people at start hill

3 corner crash people

3 straight crash people

1 finish line person

1 First aid person

  • All Volunteers will be wearing non medical grade masks.
  • Volunteers will only assist riders if there is a crash.
  • Hand sanitizer will be distributed for volunteers working in close proximity of riders.
  • Volunteers will NOT adjust bikes, helmets, gloves, shoe laces etc…

ABA license

Please note that all participants must have an Alberta Bicycle Association License in order to be insured and eligible to participate in any sanctioned event (including coaching). If you prefer to only get a general license then this is an option for you. A general license will allow you to participate at any sanctioned event at the Okotoks BMX track only. Additionally, should we be able to start racing this year in Okotoks, you will not accumulate provincial cup points for any races.

COVID waiver

All riders are now required to sign an additional COVID-19 waiver in order to participate in any ABA sanctioned event. Look for an email where you can digitally sign the waiver. Please note that no one will be allowed to participate in any coaching unless this waiver is signed.

Membership fees

In light of the fact that we are having a shortened season, Okotoks BMX will be offering a reduced membership rate of $75. For any existing 2020 members, there will be a $25 credit applied to any $100 memberships. Registrations will be accepted at the Okotoks BMX track on coaching nights.

Additional information

There will be no use of loaner bikes, equipment or community tools to use at this time (Please come prepared).  Concession is closed until further notice, please bring your own food and snacks. There will only be one parent per rider allowed into the track. All those entering the track must participate in and pass a COVID-19 interview survey.

Sincerely
Kevin Sommers / Chris Nakamura

OUR TRACK IS OPEN TO OKOTOKS RESIDENTS AND CLUB MEMBERS!

We are happy to announce that the Town of Okotoks is opening up parks again starting tomorrow, May 28th. This will include our BMX track!!

Individuals from Okotoks and any Okotoks BMX member is able to get on the track and ride as long as our gates are open.

At this time individuals from outside Okotoks who are not Okotoks BMX members are requested to not travel to the area to access the track. We ask that this guideline of not travelling to different communities be respected at this time.

This sign will be posted there, please follow the rules as you ride and have fun. If too many folks are seen at one time or seen not following the rules, there is a risk we will be asked to lock the gates again.

Our Club is not running any events or coaching yet, it is just the track that is open and accessible.

The gates will still be locked when there is rain to keep people off until it dries off again and when we have some track maintenance planned.

Our next scheduled work is this weekend so the track will be closed then.

We are very happy about this announcement! So dust off your bikes, put on your helmet, ride, be safe, follow the rules and have fun!

What to Expect for the 2018 BMX Grands Awards Ceremony Evening

The awards ceremony will be held after all racing is finished at 7pm at the Okotoks Centennial Centre, 204 Community Way, Okotoks, AB. Doors will open at 630 to allow everyone to find a seat. There is ample parking around the building. ***Please be mindful of the surrounding businesses as to not block their patrons from accessing them, there will be an overflow option, watch for volunteers to help direct you there if necessary.***

  • If racing runs late, we will push the ceremony back a half hour. For example, if races finish at 630, the awards ceremony will begin at 730. We make all best efforts to keep everyone informed of a delayed start to the ceremony through postings on our various media.

  • In an effort to keep the ceremony flowing smoothly, Alberta BMX has decided that we will only be doing podiums for the top 3 racers in each category

  • If you place 4-24, you are still encouraged to attend the event as this is a great opportunity for you to cheer on your fellow competitors but it will also be your only opportunity to obtain your shiny new AB plate!

  • We will have a ‘red carpet’ area in the event centre where you will be able to take pictures against the Alberta BMX backdrop as well as the Okotoks BMX backdrop. These backdrops will also be available the following day for those wishing to avoid lineups.

  • Lastly, if award distribution goes smoothly and on time, we will take whatever time is remaining to have a dance party until 10pm! Polish up your best dance moves because this will be loads of fun and a great opportunity for parents to really embarrass their children. Lol!

**Please note that our Club is only responsible to make arrangements to host the ceremony, it is Alberta BMX who is in charge of the actual event and distribution of trophies and plates.**

  • *stay tuned for more information*
